Kaleswaram Project

                                             The   Kaleshwaram  Project

Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project starts at the confluence point of  'Pranahita river' and
'Godavari river' which passes through Kaleswaram village in Telanagana.Pranahita river is a confluence of various smaller tributaries like Penganga,Wainganga and Wardha rivers. It is estimated that Pranahati river has an annual average flow of 280 TMC.

The project was originally named as 'Pranahita Chevalla Lift Irrigation Project' ,but the project design couldn't materialize due various issues. The original plan aimed to build a barrage across Pranhita river at Tummidihetti Village and this would serve as the starting point for the project. The height of the proposed barrage in the original plan would also submerge large fertile areas in Maharashtra. In 2016 Telangana and
Mahaeastra governments entered MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) to resolve this issue,as asolution
they decided to build a barage at Medigadda and a lift at Knnepalli village would lift water required for the
project. The whole project was redesigned with adequate barrages and reservoirs aided by pumps and lifts at appropriate places under the new name - “Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project”.

Kaleshwaram project is divided into '7' links and '28' packages covering about a 500 kms of 13 districts and a canal network of a 1800 kms. Project aims to utilise a total of 240 TMC (195 TMC from Medigadda barrage + 20 from Sripada Yellampalli Project + 25 TMC from groundwater). Of this 240 TMC, water has been divided as 169 TMC is for irrigation, 30 TMC for Hyderabad, 10 TMC for drinking water in villages along the project, 16 TMC for industries and 12 TMC is estimated evaporation losses.

Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project is claimed to be the costliest irrigation project to be taken up any State in India till date.
With an estimated cost of 80,5000 crores, it is said to be a key promise of Telangana’s TRS Government.
The Engineering giant Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited is proud to be the part of this Engineering marvel.
The TRS Government has redesigned the project enabling to store more water. After conducting highly advanced Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Survey.
  • Highest pump and motor capacity in package 8 and each is 139 MW and Total 7 pumps and Biggest underground pump house in Pkg 8.
  • Per day 3 TMC lifting is Big & It can Serve Future Generations ! Hence we call it Future Proof.
  • Highest power consumption Scheme in Asia.
  • Longest tunnel in Asia 203 in single scheme ( But not single tunnel).
  • Biggest underground surgepool in Package 10.
  • New Barrages and Pump Houses each 3.
